ABOUT
German born singer-songwriter, Jen Lockwood, grew up in sunny Brighton on the south coast of England. From a young age she was surrounded by music, growing up in a household where both her dad and older brother enjoyed playing songs by The Beatles and James Taylor.
Her first experience as a musician was learning the violin at infant school. However, she later moved on to the ‘cello which is an instrument she loves and plays to this day.
At the age of thirteen, Jen learnt her first chords on guitar and soon after had written her first song. Inspiration came after seeing Beth Orton live at The Brighton Dome. Her other early musical influences include; Bonnie Raitt, Tori Amos, Carole King and Tina Dico.
Jen’s first musical project was an all-girl acoustic trio called Scarlet Isle; three friends writing their own material and performing around various local venues in Brighton.
She later won a scholarship to attend music college where she completed a songwriting course, before studying at Kings College London. Whilst at University, Jen continued writing songs but chose to focus on her Nursing training.
After qualifying as a Children’s Nurse in 2013, Jen specialised in Neonatal Intensive Care and worked at St. Thomas’ Hospital in London. Jen lived and worked in the capital for six years. She now lives in Nottingham. After completing a rotation in Nottingham Children’s Hospital, Jen undertook her Specialist Community Public Health Nursing training and now works a Health Visitor in Nottinghamshire.
In 2017, Jen recorded and released her first EP ‘Hello I am Grace’ and performed abroad in Germany at the Gitarrentage Festival in Viernheim. In 2019, Jen supported The Lathums locally at The Lady Bay Festival.
She continues to write music and has recently completed her MSc.
